DICOMscope - a DICOM Viewer

DICOMscope is a freely available DICOM viewer, that allows users to test different DICOM features via a graphical user interface. These include receiving DICOM files over a network, mechanisms that ensure consistent image display and DICOM Print (as a client).

DICOMscope is not supposed to compete with commercial viewers. It is more of a feasibility study for DICOM Presentation States and calibrated printing. The program is not suitable for use in clinical contexts, e.g. for diagnosis. You'll find further details regarding DICOMscope under History.

System Requirements

DICOMscope 3.6.4 requires Windows 7 or Windows 10 (32 or 64 bit) and a pre-installed Java 8 runtime.

History

DICOMscope is a freely available DICOM viewer. The program has been implemented in Java / C++ and displays uncompressed, monochrome DICOM images of all modalities. It also supports monitor calibration according to part 14 of the DICOM standard as well as the new Presentation States. DICOMscope offers a print client (DICOM Basic Grayscale Print Management), that also supports the optional Presentation LUT SOP Class. The prototype was implemented in reaction to a call from the Committee for the Advancement of DICOM and presented at the European Congress of Radiology ECR 1999. For the DICOM Display Consistency Demonstration at RSNA InfoRAD 1999 the program was reviewed and extended. Version 3.5.1 was demonstrated at ECR 2001. It offers a printserver, support for encrypted DICOM communication, digital signatures and Structured Reporting.
