What is the DICOM standard?
DICOM stands for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine.
The globally accepted standard is concerned with standardizing the storage and exchange of medical image information and associated data.
The goal is to promote the interoperability of imaging devices as well as archiving and information systems.
To this end, the standard specifies protocols for network communication, formats for medical images and image-related data, formats for storage media exchange, and requirements for compliant devices and programs.
