IHE training provided by OFFIS

This year, OFFIS is providing two DICOM XDS training sessinos, one in Thun (Switzerland) and one in Oldenburg (Germany). In Thun the training is performed together with our cooperation partner medshare GmbH. The training in Switzerland is scheduled for May 26th/27th 2010 and provides an introduction into basic IHE concepts and its most important integration profiles. Special emphasis is placed on the e-health strategy of Switzerland "Standards and Architectures" which is aiming at a nation-wide IHE-based e-health infrastructure. The German training is scheduled for September 6th/7th 2010 and includes the same topics besides the session on the planned XDS installation in Switzerland. Detailed information for both trainings are given below.

IHE XDS Training Germany

The training will take place 6th/7th September 2010 and introduces IHE XDS and its most important related IHE Integration Profiles.

IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) is an international non-profit initiative for enhancing technical data exchange between IT systems in health care. IHE does not develop new standards; instead, existing standards like DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) or HL7 (Health Level 7) are applied to solve typical integration problems. For that purpose, so-called Technical Frameworks are published which describe how existing standards can be used to guarantee a seamless data flow. The Technical Framework contains Integration Profiles each describing a typical workflow scenario that requires interactions between different computer systems. For more information see also www.ihe.net or www.ihe-europe.net .

The training agenda includes an introduction into IHE and the XDS core profiles as well as all important XDS-related profiles usually imlpemented for real XDS scenarios:
  • Introduction to IHE: Goals, organisational aspects, Technical Framework, Integration Profiles, Navigation in IHE documents, testing processes
  • XDS core profile: Goals and concepts, Actors and Transactions, meta data (ebXML), XDS.a versus XDS.b
  • PIX, PDQ and CT: Infrastructure for XDS
  • ATNA: Bringing security to XDS
  • XUA: Cross-enterprise User Authentication
  • XDM: XDS point-to-point communication
  • XDR: XDS data exchange using storage media
  • XDS-I: Integrating DICOM image archives in XDS
  • XCA: Communication between different XDS scenarions (Affinity Domains)
  • XDS in practice: Planning XDS scenarios, international projects, open source tools
